Ask Linda #1788-Carry spare ball in pocket

Hello Linda,
I believe you are not in breach of the Rules if you artificially warm your golf balls prior to the start of your round [Decision 14-3/13.5].

However, can you carry a spare ball in your pocket once you have started the round and/or is there something in the Rules that confirm it is OK to do this?

Many thanks for your help.
Lou from Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Dear Lou,

There is no reason you can’t carry a spare ball in your pocket, as long as you don’t intentionally put it in the pocket where you store your hand warmer.

The Rules don’t specify everything that you are permitted to do. Their main concern is what you may not do. Thus, you won’t find a Rule that states you may carry a spare ball in your pocket. Actions that are not specifically prohibited are permitted.
