May a practice swing be made in a bunker during a round, even
if my ball never entered any sand bunker prior? Would a player be allowed to
take a practice swing and allow the clubface to touch the sand in order to test
the sand?

Dear Lou,
Yes. You may test the condition of the sand when your ball
does not lie in a bunker or is not required to be dropped in a bunker. However,
it is expected that you will carefully rake the area where you take a practice
swing. Also, you must not unduly delay play.
