Ask Linda #862-Hit provisional, original unplayable

Linda, if you play a provisional ball and you find the first ball, which is then unplayable, what are your options?

Lulu

Dear Lulu,

When you find your original ball, and it is neither lost nor out of bounds, you must abandon your provisional and continue play with the original [Rule 27-2c]. If you decide to declare the original ball unplayable, you must choose one of the relief options in Rule 28, Ball Unplayable.
