Linda … I know that one can take relief from a drain cover
but what about an altered lie due to the slope associated with a man-made
drain. Most drains have a significant slope that extends a yard
or two away from the actual drain cover. If a ball comes to rest in
a place that the drain cover is not impeding stance or swing but the slope
associated with the drain is impacting the stance is that cause for a free
drop?
Thanks in advance for your help
Lou
Dear Lou,
You are entitled to relief from an immovable obstruction
when it interferes with your lie or the area of your intended swing. The ground
sloping down towards a drain is not an immovable obstruction. There is no free
relief from the slope.
