Linda,
Can you please clarify the rule re: gimmies? As I understand
it, you can give your opponent his putt in match play but there are no such
gimmies in any form of stroke play. I play with two friends who in the course of
a friendly Stableford give each other putts. I believe this is contrary to the
rules and always insist in putting my ball out. It has caused a little
friction.
Cheers,
Lou
Dear Lou,
Stableford is a form of stroke play. If the putt will count
towards a Stableford point, you must hole out. If you don’t, you are
disqualified from the hole – no points [Rules 3-2 and 32-2b].
If your friends prefer a more light-hearted competition
where they can concede putts, why don’t you switch over to match play?
Linda
