Linda, my question is this... I was addressing my
ball on the putting green when I accidently touched the ball. It did not move
from its position but was definitely touched. Should I have given myself a one-stroke
penalty?
Thanks,
Lulu from Ontario, Canada
Dear Lulu,
There is a one-stroke penalty if you purposely touch your ball (except with a club when you address it); there is no penalty for accidentally touching your ball [Rule
18-2a]. You will, however, incur a one-stroke penalty if you move the ball when
you touch it. In that case, you would have to replace it before you hit it.
Linda
