Ask Linda #152-Ball lost in fairway

Hello Linda,

I have always thought that a Lost Ball was just that...lost... with Stroke and Distance penalty.This year I've been told that if fellow golfers see your ball hit down the fairway but can't be found that it is deemed not lost.

Please help.

Dear Lulu,

You are correct. Lulu. Lost is lost – no exceptions. If a player does not find his ball within five minutes, he must play another under penalty of stroke and distance.
